Over the past few years, Cincon has been a pioneer in the industry, providing diverse power solutions with cutting-edge technology such as fan-less and baseplate cooled power solutions that cover a wide power range. Since the launch of these products, Cincon has received much positive feedback from the market, and these products have been widely applied in various harsh environments or quiet places. As the demand for higher power wattage continues to rise, Cincon has dedicated the R&D energy to meeting these growing requirements. This time we upgraded the CFM500S with the built-in parallel feature (-pc version), making the CFM500S-PC a high efficiency, reliable, high power, and baseplate-cooled solution.

In order to take advantage of the modular configuration, it is essential to incorporate current sharing among the power modules. The following outlines three primary paralleling methods. The key distinction between passive and active current share lies in the inclusion of an additional third wire for parallel connection.

Active current share

The CFM500S-PC adopts the innovative active current share technology, a smart and dynamic way of managing multiple power supply units in parallel. This advanced control mechanism ensures an equal distribution of load among interconnected units, resulting in a stable and reliable output to meet the demanding power requirements of various applications.

The CFM500S-PC was designed for parallel operation. To achieve more precise and consistent current sharing, the following design guidelines should be adhered to:

1. When 2 units are paralleled, the load current can be equally shared between the modules by connecting the PC pins together. The parallel connection is shown below.

2. When more than 2 units are paralleled, users should connect the Pin4 (PS-ON) of CN3 of all PSUs together to ensure the paralleled power modules can start up at the same time without trigging the OCP. The parallel connection is shown below.

3. When the PSUs are connected in parallel, the remote sense feature could not be used.

4. Only PSUs with the same output voltage are allowed for parallel operation and ensure the output voltage at no-load is within 0.2V.

5. The maximum of total power can"t exceed 90% of rated total power. The value of total output current is defined as:

As science and technology continue to advance, the demand for high-power electrical equipment is steadily increasing. To accommodate the need for greater output power or enhanced reliability through redundant power usage, employing multiple power modules in parallel becomes necessary. However, achieving precise current sharing among paralleled units is critical for optimal performance. Three charts presented below illustrate the exceptional accuracy of current sharing in a parallel configuration of 2 ~4 units of CFM500S-PC. The graphs clearly showcase the uniform distribution of load current across all modules, resulting in seamless and balanced operation.

The two graphs below show the response of load change for three parallel CFM500S power supplies, with the output current varying from 150W to 1500W in the dynamic waveform. As we see from the figures, when the load changes, the system"s output voltage and current still remain stable.

This high accuracy of current sharing and excellent dynamic feature ensure maximum efficiency and reliability, making it an ideal solution for demanding applications. With such remarkable performance, the power system attains robustness, mitigates potential issues, and meets the stringent requirements of modern-day industries.
